Five Nigerian Air Force Personnel Die in Road Accident

Five personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) lost their lives in a fatal auto crash along the Jos-Akwanga Express Road. The crash, which has left the Air Force and their families in mourning, occurred as the personnel were traveling to Abuja for a sporting event.

The incident involved a head-on collision between the vehicle carrying the NAF personnel and an oncoming truck. The impact of the crash was severe, leading to the immediate deaths of all five individuals on board.

The exact cause of the collision has not yet been disclosed, but the incident took place in the Hawan Kibo area of the expressway, a known accident-prone spot due to its sharp bends and high traffic flow.

The news of the accident was confirmed by Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force. In a statement, Air Commodore Akinboyewa expressed the deep sorrow felt by the Air Force community and acknowledged the unfortunate loss of their gallant personnel.

“The Nigerian Air Force deeply regrets to announce the loss of five of our gallant personnel who were involved in a tragic road traffic accident on 22 October 2024,” Akinboyewa said.

He went on to explain that the Air Force has already begun taking steps to support the grieving families. “Consequently, the statutory administrative protocols applicable in circumstances such as this have been activated by the NAF to provide comfort and support to the bereaved families,” he added.
