An operation carried out by troops of the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Brigade has led to the elimination of six terrorists in Sokoto State’s Gudu Local Government Area. However, the mission came at a significant cost as five soldiers tragically lost their lives during the engagement.
The incident, detailed in a statement released on Thursday by Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, highlighted the bravery of the troops during the intense firefight. The operation targeted a group of Lakurawa terrorists, a faction known for instigating violence in the region.
The troops achieved notable success by recovering various items from the terrorists. According to the statement, the recovered items included four AK-47 rifles, 160 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a box containing 12.7mm ammunition. These items underscore the significant firepower possessed by the terrorists and the challenges faced by security forces in combating such threats.
“Despite this success, the operation came at a heavy cost, as five gallant soldiers tragically lost their lives in the line of duty,” the statement read.
In light of the events, the military has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in Gudu LGA and surrounding areas. Public cooperation, the statement emphasized, is essential for combating terrorism and maintaining peace.
