Four Nigerian Students Jailed in UK for Violent Clash

Four young men of Nigerian descent have been sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom for their roles in a violent altercation involving knives and a baseball bat. The incident, which occurred on New Park Street, Leicester, during the early hours of November 4, 2021, left an 18-year-old victim with four stab wounds, requiring emergency medical treatment.

The clash escalated into a dangerous brawl that caught the attention of local authorities. A thorough investigation followed, involving the review of CCTV footage, phone records, and public assistance to identify the suspects. The evidence collected led to charges being filed against five individuals.

Following a six-week trial, the Leicester Crown Court handed down sentences to the four main defendants on November 14, 2023:

Destiny Ojo, 21, from Plumstead, London, received seven years for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH), and GBH with intent.

Habib Lawal, 21, from Bexley, London, was sentenced to five years for violent disorder, attempted GBH, and GBH with intent.

Ridwanulahi Raheem, 21, from Lambeth, London, was given three years for violent disorder and possession of a bladed article.

Joshua Davies-Ero, 21, also from Bexley, London, received two years for violent disorder.

A fifth defendant, Justin Asamoah, 22, from Merton, who earlier pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article, awaits sentencing on November 22.

Detective Constable Sean Downey stressed the severity of the incident, stating: “This incident highlights the serious danger of violent disorder… This could have been a very different investigation.” He thanked the public and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to ensuring safety and taking firm action against such violence.
