Former Rivers State Governor and PDP presidential aspirant, Dr. Peter Odili, has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for protecting Rivers State from what he described as an attempt by the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to turn the state into his personal estate.
Odili shared his thoughts during a Christmas gathering hosted in honor of Governor Fubara and his family.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Odili praised Fubara for demonstrating remarkable courage in resisting unnecessary political challenges aimed at dominating the state.
He highlighted the governor’s efforts to uphold governance and ensure the welfare of the people, stating, “Governor Fubara confronted the challenge, prevented the quest by one man to capture the State as a private estate, emancipated Rivers people, steadied governance, and made civil servants and Rivers people happier.”
Governor Fubara, in his response, credited his success to divine intervention and the unwavering support of Rivers residents. Reflecting on the crisis, he remarked, “And not just because I want to accept it, I get stronger in this course every day when I look at the support I am getting from the true Rivers people.
“So, it is not me being strong. My strength is drawn from everyone of you that is here. You gave me the encouragement; you do the work for me; you make the calls for me. So, why won’t I stand up for you.
“But we also believe strongly that the ultimate game changer, the ultimate liberator, and the ultimate fighter still remains God Almighty. And because we have Him on our side, victory is assured.”
Other notable figures at the event, including the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, and the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, acknowledged the turbulent political period. They lauded Fubara’s resilience and leadership, with Amadi calling it a “liberation fight.”
