FULL LIST: CBN Appoints 16 New Directors In Major Leadership Overhaul

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has appointed 16 new directors across various departments in a significant leadership restructuring. The changes affect key areas such as Monetary Policy, Banking Supervision, Trade and Exchange, Consumer Protection, and Payment Systems.

This announcement comes as regulators increase oversight on banks and financial technology firms. It also aligns with the final phase of the banking sector recapitalization exercise, aimed at strengthening the financial system.

A source within the CBN stated, “The very best were selected as such, no one will complain about the process because they all were appointed from within the system.”

One of the most notable appointments is Dr. Olubukola Akinwunmi Akinniyi, who now serves as the Director of Banking Supervision. His role is critical as financial institutions prepare to support President Bola Tinubu’s vision of a $1 trillion economy.

The CBN has also restructured its Payment Systems Management Department, splitting it into two units—one focusing on policy and the other on supervision. Yusuf Rakiya Opeyemi has been named Director of the new Payment System Supervision Department, reflecting efforts to curb financial fraud and improve regulatory oversight.
