FULL LIST: Nigeria Ranks Third in Africa for US Deportations

Nigeria has been ranked third among African nations with the highest number of deportations from the United States between 2020 and 2025.

According to figures released by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and shared by Vanguard, a total of 437 Nigerian citizens were deported during this five-year period. The report shows that Senegal recorded the highest number, while Mauritania came second, leaving Nigeria in third place.

The deportations were mainly linked to criminal convictions and final orders given by immigration judges. Under Title 8 of the United States Code, officers working in the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) division are authorized to deport non-citizens who have been issued final orders of removal.

The data provides fresh insight into the challenges the US government has faced in handling immigration enforcement, particularly concerning individuals with criminal histories. Although some of the deported individuals had criminal records, others were removed after exhausting their legal options to remain in the country.

The full list of deportations by African country between 2020 and 2025 reads as follows:

  1. Senegal – 689 deportations
  2. Mauritania – 481 deportations
  3. Nigeria – 437 deportations
  4. Egypt – 387 deportations
  5. Ghana – 276 deportations
  6. Angola – 227 deportations
  7. Cameroon – 166 deportations
  8. Guinea – 162 deportations
  9. Somalia – 154 deportations
