Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk, in a recent interview, shared the strategy he used to bring Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to the club. Despite heavy interest from other teams, including Al Ahli and Chelsea, Osimhen chose to join Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli.
Osimhen, who was in the spotlight during the transfer window, had several offers on the table but ultimately made the decision to head to Turkey. Buruk explained that a personal approach was the key to securing the striker’s signature.
“I have a style and a method, like a video chat with a footballer on the phone… I spoke to Osimhen and he was convinced,” Buruk told Milliyet via Napoli Magazine.
Buruk highlighted that during their conversation, he outlined his tactical approach and how Osimhen would fit into his plans. The coach emphasized his intention to use a formation that includes two strikers, a system that appealed to Osimhen.
“He found it very exciting to come to Galatasaray. I already had the idea of playing with a double striker. Such an opportunity should not be missed,” Buruk added.
This move is seen as a significant coup for Galatasaray, as Osimhen brings a wealth of experience and goal-scoring ability. The Turkish Super Lig club hopes that Osimhen will play a pivotal role in their campaign, as they aim for domestic and European success this season.
