Ganduje: Power Will Shift to North After Tinubu Completes Two Terms

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has stated that President Bola Tinubu will complete eight years in office before power shifts back to the northern region in 2031. Ganduje made this known on Tuesday in Abuja while addressing a delegation from the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum.

His statement comes amid reports that some northern political figures are working against Tinubu’s expected bid for re-election in 2027. However, Ganduje assured the group that the APC remains committed to the principle of power rotation, noting that after Tinubu’s tenure, leadership will return to the North.

During the meeting, Ganduje commended the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum for its efforts in mobilizing support for the ruling party. He noted that their work in voter education and data collection is valuable to the party’s long-term strategy.

“I have even seen that you are assisting the government in public enlightenment for people to understand the tax reform agenda,” Ganduje said. He explained that while the tax reforms were initially misunderstood, public engagement has helped people grasp the purpose behind them.

He further encouraged the group to continue their efforts, emphasizing the importance of such support organizations in helping the government communicate its policies effectively.

Ganduje reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to zoning, stating that the party worked hard to ensure a southern candidate succeeded former President Muhammadu Buhari, who hails from the North. He expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure a second term in 2027 and that power would shift back to the North afterward.

“We are happy that our party believes in zoning,” he noted. “Our president has come from the South and he is going, by God’s grace, for a second term in 2027. And then after that, it will be turned to the northern part of this country.”

He encouraged the youth forum to stay focused on mobilizing voters and assured them that the APC would study their proposals to explore areas of collaboration.

Ganduje also met with the Tinubu Young Generation Forum, another group supporting the president’s administration. He noted that while Tinubu inherited many economic challenges, his reforms are beginning to show positive results.

“There is no doubt so many things went wrong over a long period of time and it would require surgery before we can get it right,” he said. “But we are happy that we have started seeing the outcome of the reforms, especially on the economic side.”

He expressed optimism that the economic policies would continue to improve conditions in the country, ensuring that the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” is successfully implemented.
