Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has acknowledged that his rise to power as governor was made possible through divine intervention, with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, serving as the chosen vessel.
Nwifuru made this declaration on Monday during an empowerment event in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The program was organized by Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ohaoazara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency.
During the event, Nwifuru expressed gratitude for Umahi’s unwavering support throughout his political journey.
“God would have used another person to make me governor, but Umahi was the only person available to be used,” Nwifuru stated.
Reflecting on their relationship, he described Umahi as a leader who paved the way for his political career, starting from his time as Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, a position he held for eight years during Umahi’s tenure as governor.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Umahi’s influence was instrumental in ensuring Nwifuru’s succession as governor at the end of his administration in 2023. Since then, their relationship has remained strong, with Umahi frequently affirming his belief that Nwifuru will complete two terms in office.
Nwifuru praised Umahi’s leadership, citing his achievements in infrastructure, peacebuilding, and human capital development. He also described him as a “goal-getter” who knows how to achieve his objectives effectively.
