The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gombe State Command, has announced the deployment of 500 officers to keep the state safe during the upcoming Democracy Day celebration on June 12, 2025.
The Public Relations Officer of the Corps in Gombe, SC Buhari Saad, made this known during a press briefing on Wednesday. He said that the deployment follows instructions from the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar, who directed all state commands to increase security during the national holiday.
According to Saad, the officers have been posted to key areas across Gombe to prevent any form of trouble. He said they will be stationed at public gathering points, places considered sensitive, and various command zones across the state. Their job is to make sure the event goes on peacefully without any major problems.
He also mentioned that the NSCDC remains committed to protecting lives and property. “The deployed personnel, comprising officers and men, will be stationed at strategic locations, including celebration venues, high-risk areas, and key points across all divisions and area commands. Their presence aims to deter potential security threats and ensure a crime-free celebration throughout the state,” Saad said.
Meanwhile, the Gombe State Commandant, Jibrin Idris, called on members of the public to be alert and report anything unusual. He asked both residents and visitors to play their part in keeping the state safe.
“The Commandant wishes all citizens and residents a happy Democracy Day celebration,” Saad added, while urging people to enjoy the day but stay watchful.
In addition to the NSCDC’s plans, the Gombe State Police Command has also taken steps to ensure safety. Its spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said that full arrangements have been made to maintain peace during the celebration. He noted that both men and materials have been deployed to ensure that nothing goes wrong.
“The Gombe State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has concluded all necessary security arrangements for the peaceful and hitch-free celebration of June 12, Nigeria’s Democracy Day,” he said.
Abdullahi noted that the security setup covers key places such as government offices, parks, religious centres, and official venues for events. He also noted that the police will be carrying out patrols and using intelligence teams to watch for any sign of trouble.
“He (Police Commissioner) has further directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Units, and Intelligence Officers to intensify visibility policing, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations,” Abdullahi added.
He warned that anyone planning to cause disorder will face strict action. The Police Commissioner also called on parents to guide their children against any unlawful act during the celebration.
