Gospel Singer Big Bolaji Laid to Rest in Ibadan

Popular Nigerian gospel artiste Bolaji Olanrewaju, widely known as Big Bolaji, was laid to rest on Wednesday, May 29, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The 50-year-old singer passed away on April 19 after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy in gospel music that touched the lives of many.

His funeral service took place at the Hall of Grace inside the Jogor Centre in Ibadan. The atmosphere was deeply emotional as loved ones, fans, and colleagues gathered to say their final goodbyes. The event featured a lying-in-state ceremony, where mourners had the opportunity to pay their last respects.

Several prominent personalities in the Nigerian gospel music scene were present. Tosin Bee, Mike Abdul, Bidemi Olaoba, Yetunde Are, and comedian Woli Agba were among those who attended the ceremony to honor their late colleague and friend.

During the service, a tribute video was shown, showcasing Big Bolaji’s music career and his role in promoting gospel values. The video sparked strong emotional reactions from the crowd—some wept, while others clapped in appreciation of the joy he brought through his music.

One of the most touching moments came when pallbearers carried his flower-covered casket into the venue, while the crowd stood silently in mourning. Social media was filled with photos and videos capturing the depth of sorrow and respect shared at the event.

After the service concluded, the funeral procession moved to All Souls Private Cemetery located in Ido, Ibadan. It was there, among close family and friends, that Big Bolaji was finally laid to rest.
