Governor Aiyedatiwa Approves Employment of 1,000 Teachers in Ondo State

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the employment of 1,000 secondary school teachers across the state. The approval comes as part of efforts to strengthen the education sector and address the shortage of teachers, especially in rural areas.

A statement released by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Monday, confirmed that the recruitment process had been completed by the state’s Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM). The successful candidates are expected to begin their documentation immediately.

“The governor gave approval for the recruitment of 1,010 secondary school and 1,000 primary school teachers last year, which signalled the start of the recruitment exercise by TESCOM and the State Universal Basic Education Board,” the statement read.

While the list for secondary school teachers has been finalized, the statement noted that the recruitment process for primary school teachers is still being finalized.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has previously noted concerns about the shortage of teachers in public schools, particularly in rural communities. To address this, he directed that recruitment should focus on schools with the greatest need for staff.

In addition to the employment approval, the governor recently approved the payment of ₦633 million for the registration of students in the state for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

The governor has also approved the upgrade and conversion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into the University of Agriculture and Agribusiness, Owo.
