Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has officially signed the state’s 2025 fiscal year budget, valued at N750.28 billion, into law. The bill, which was recently passed by the Abia State House of Assembly, was endorsed on Friday during a brief ceremony.
Expressing appreciation to the lawmakers, Governor Otti commended their dedication to thoroughly scrutinizing the budget in record time. He described the budget as a strategic tool aimed at sustaining his administration’s development agenda and delivering on promises made to the people of Abia.
He said: “This budget that has been passed is one that will give us the impetus to continue firing on all cylinders to ensure that our people live a good life. I want to thank, especially, the House members and the leadership of the House for doing such a thorough job in record time. I commend you for being thorough. That’s actually what our government is about..
“We pride ourselves as a serious-minded government, so anything we present, we are ready for scrutiny, and I want to thank you for the great job you did in scrutinising the budget, disagreeing in a few areas, and being flexible enough to accept reasonable responses,” Otti stated.
He added, “When we say sustained momentum, we know that we have taken off, and the challenge is to continue because the easiest thing to do is accelerate.
“We can assure you that this government has its eyes on the ball and will continue to do those things we promised our people — actions that will take this state out of poverty and transform it from being one of the dirtiest states, as it was in 2023,” he explained, citing his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development as demonstrated in the budget.
“Our push for infrastructural development is reflected in this budget because, when you allocate over 80 per cent to capital expenditure, it speaks to what you want to achieve with infrastructure—things that will outlast all of us,”he stated.
