A total of 368 Personal Assistants (PAs) to Governor Umo Eno, each assigned to a different ward in Akwa Ibom State, have publicly declared their support for his second term bid. This announcement followed the governor’s decision to double their monthly salary from N250,000 to N500,000, beginning in November 2024.
The news was shared by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ekere Udoh, during a media briefing on Thursday. He noted that the assistants were overwhelmed with joy after the governor revealed the salary raise during a meeting held at the Government House in Uyo.
Udoh explained that the governor’s announcement drew cheers from the assistants, who responded by expressing their loyalty and backing for Governor Eno’s leadership beyond the 2027 election. “The governor announced an increase in their monthly salary from N250,000 to N500,000, an announcement received with uncontrollable joy and a declaration of support for the governor beyond 2027,” he said.
Aniefiok James, who serves as the Dean of the College of Ward PAs, spoke on behalf of the group. He thanked the governor, stating that the salary increase showed the governor’s genuine concern for their well-being and dedication to the growth of Akwa Ibom State.
Meanwhile, Governor Eno also introduced a new round of free food distribution under the state’s Food Security Programme. This initiative targets the most vulnerable households across all local government areas in the state.
At the same meeting with the ward PAs, the governor urged them to ensure that the food items are delivered directly to those who need them the most. He asked them to act with honesty and commitment while carrying out the distribution.
