Grammy 2025 Awards: Beyonce Makes History with 11 Nominations

Beyonce has broken records yet again as the Grammy nominations for 2025 were announced, securing an astounding 11 nods. This achievement makes her the most nominated artist this year and further cements her legacy in the music industry. Among the prestigious nominations, Beyonce’s album Cowboy Carter is a standout, competing for Album of the Year—a significant honor she has not yet won.

Released earlier in 2024, Cowboy Carter has been celebrated not only for its musical quality but also for its cultural impact. As an album inspired by country music, it honors the contributions of Black musicians to the genre, a tribute that many fans and critics have embraced. Notably, Cowboy Carter made history as the first album by a Black woman to lead the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, demonstrating its widespread success and influence.

Following Beyonce’s 11 nominations, other top artists like Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone have received seven nominations each. Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan also made a strong showing, each earning six nominations. With these new Grammy nods, Beyonce has reached a career total of 99 nominations, breaking her previous record and surpassing her husband, Jay-Z, who has 88.

The 2025 Album of the Year category is a close competition this year, dominated by female artists. Besides Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter, contenders include Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet, Charli XCX’s Brat, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, and Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Male nominees include André 3000 with New Blue Sun and jazz musician Jacob Collier with Djesse Vol. 4.

Voting for the Grammy winners is conducted by the Recording Academy’s 13,000 members, who have increased diversity among their ranks by 65% since 2019. The Academy continues to emphasize inclusivity, with 38% of its current voters representing people of color.
