Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a leading figure of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun to act swiftly in response to a recent killing in Edo State.
The incident unfolded in Benin City following the reinstatement of Philip Shaibu as Deputy Governor of Edo State by a federal high court. As Shaibu returned to the city, what was expected to be a peaceful event took a violent turn. Amidst the chaos, a police officer assigned to Monday Okpebholo, the APC’s governorship candidate, was tragically killed.
This unexpected violence has raised serious concerns about the security situation in the state, particularly in the run-up to the gubernatorial elections. In light of these concerns, Senator Oshiomhole has demanded urgent and decisive action from the police force to ensure the safety of all citizens and to prevent further violence.
He stated, “We cannot allow this kind of violence to continue, especially with the elections approaching. The police must take immediate steps to bring those responsible to justice and to restore order.”
