Gunmen Abduct Ohanaeze Youth Leader Igboayaka in Imo State

The President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, has been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Imo State. The shocking incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, February 8, 2025, in the Works Layout area of Owerri.

Chilos Godsent, the President of the Igbo National Council (INC), confirmed the abduction in a statement released on Sunday morning, February 9, 2025. He noted that the attackers, dressed in black, were about seven in number. They carried out the operation using two vehicles, a Sienna and a Lexus SUV.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen moved swiftly, seizing Igboayaka and driving off to an undisclosed location. The sudden attack has left Igboayaka’s family and associates in deep distress.

Godsent called on the Nigeria Police Force in Imo State to act immediately to locate and rescue the youth leader. He urged law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.

“The Igbo National Council (INC) wishes to call on the leadership of the Nigerian Police Force, Imo State Command, to immediately swing into action to determine the identity of the gunmen who forcefully took the President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, captive on the evening of Saturday, February 8, 2025, in Owerri Metropolis, and to make the findings public,” the statement partly reads.
