Two people were seriously injured after gunmen attacked a vehicle in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, on Tuesday. The attackers managed to steal a large sum of money during the raid, leaving the area in panic as residents and passersby scrambled to safety.
The violent event took place along Old Awai Road, where a Toyota Camry with a government-issued plate number was traveling before being intercepted by the armed men. The victims, both male, were inside the vehicle when the gunmen struck. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers opened fire, injuring the two men inside the car.
Following the attack, the gunmen reportedly made away with two large “Ghana-must-go” bags filled with an undisclosed amount of cash. They quickly fled the scene, speeding off in their vehicle to an unknown destination.
An anonymous source at the scene shared details about the aftermath of the attack, explaining that the two injured victims were in critical condition.
Sympathizers in the area acted fast, rushing the victims to a nearby hospital, although the exact location of the hospital has not been disclosed. “The situation was very tense; people were afraid and just ran for their lives,” the source added.
The robbery and shooting caused fear and chaos in the neighborhood, with many residents concerned about the growing insecurity in the area. While some tried to help the injured victims, most witnesses fled the scene in fear of their own safety.
When reached for comment, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, stated that no official report of the incident had been filed with the police at the time of inquiry. This raises concerns about the response and follow-up to the disturbing event.
