Gunmen Demand N100m Ransom for Ondo APC Chairman

The abductors of Nelson Adepoyigi, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, have reportedly demanded a ransom of N100 million for his release.

The abduction took place on Monday evening in Ifon town, where Adepoyigi, who also serves as a ward chairman in Ose Local Government Area, was seized outside his home.

Sources indicate that Adepoyigi was parking his car around 10 p.m. when he was ambushed by the assailants. They allegedly beat him with sticks before forcibly taking him away.

His wife, who heard his cries for help, rushed outside only to find that her husband had been abducted.

The gunmen have since reached out to the victim’s family and reportedly made their ransom demand. A family source confirmed that the kidnappers are seeking N100 million for his release, though negotiations are still ongoing.

The source added, “We are still negotiating with them, we have not really agreed on the amount to be paid. But we have told them to reduce the ransom to a reasonable amount.”

Ayanlade Olayinka, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the kidnapping and provided additional details. “I can confirm to you that the chairman, APC ward 5, was kidnapped at the entrance of his farm along Ifon-Owo road,” he said.

In a separate development, tensions have escalated in Ikakumo, a community in Akoko Northeast Local Government Area, after a herdsman was killed in a violent clash with a local vigilante group.

According to reports, two other individuals, including the commander of the vigilante group, were injured in the confrontation. The violence reportedly began when a member of the vigilante group confronted a herdsman over the alleged abduction of a man named Balogun in the community.

The altercation quickly turned deadly when one of the herders was fatally stabbed.
