Four female students of Joseph Sarwan Tarka University, Makurdi (JoSTM), formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture, were abducted on Tuesday night by armed men while on campus.
The victims, identified as Emmanuella, Fola, Susan, and Ella, were reportedly on their way to a lecture hall to study when they were ambushed by five armed men around 8:30 p.m. The incident has caused panic among students, with many demanding immediate action from the school authorities and security agencies.
A fellow student, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared details about the attack. She noted that the victims lived in Zamfara Hostel, located in the North Core area of the university. According to her, the students were heading to a lecture hall when they encountered the gunmen.
“The armed men were said to have surrounded the students and ordered them to follow. But they tried to escape into the bush while calling for help,” she said. “However, the gunmen threatened to shoot them if they did not come out. Fearing for their lives, they obeyed and were taken away. We do not know their whereabouts at this moment.”
“This is simply unacceptable,” another student said. “We cannot be living in fear on campus. The university must do everything possible to secure their release and improve security. We are also worried about our own safety, especially since many of us study at night in lecture halls. With this situation, students are now too scared to move around at night.”
