Gunmen Kill One, Kidnap Final-Year University Student in Kebbi

A final-year student from the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, has been kidnapped following an early morning attack on an off-campus student hostel. The incident, which took place at Istijaba Villa in Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo Local Government Area, occurred around 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level Economics student. A statement released by the police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the gunmen stormed the residential building and forcibly abducted Madubiya from the premises.

The situation turned even more tragic when a local resident, Malam Siddi Hussaini, was killed during the chaos. Hussaini, who was nearby tending to his cattle, reportedly tried to intervene during the attack. He was shot by the attackers and was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

“The victim, according to a press statement signed by the command’s spokesman, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, identified as Augustine Madubiya, 23, a final-year Economics student, was kidnapped around 3 am by kidnappers who stormed the hostel premises,” the statement read. “Tragically, a good Samaritan, Malam Siddi Hussaini, who was nearby attending to his cattle and attempted to intervene, was fatally shot during the incident. He was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”

In response to the incident, the Divisional Police Officer in Kalgo quickly led a group of security officers to the scene. The command has stated that it is currently tracking strong leads to uncover the identities and whereabouts of the attackers.

“The command is following credible leads, and a combined team of security personnel is actively combing the surrounding forest areas to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and the arrest of those behind this despicable act,” the statement added.
