Hardship: Ex-Buhari Ahmad Slams Tinubu’s Govt Following Fuel Price Hike

Bashir Ahmad, who served as an aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed concerns over the worsening economic situation in Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

Ahmad’s comments, made on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), came at a time when many Nigerians are feeling the impact of rising costs of living and increasing economic challenges.

In his message, Ahmad highlighted the silent struggles that many Nigerians are going through, urging people to be more compassionate and to support one another in these tough times.

His words: “Truly, many people are struggling silently in these times of critical economic hardship. They shouldn’t have to beg or show their need for our support.

“Let’s extend a helping hand to as many people as we can, even when they don’t ask for it. Small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Encourage those in your circle to also do the same.”

Ahmad’s remarks come shortly after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced a significant increase in the price of petrol, which now stands at a staggering N1,030 per litre.

The price hike has triggered a wave of public outcry, with many Nigerians expressing their frustration and concern over the growing cost of living. This latest increase in fuel prices has added to the already existing financial burdens faced by the population. Economists have warned that the rising cost of fuel will likely push even more Nigerians below the poverty line.

In 2023, the World Bank reported that 104 million Nigerians, approximately 46% of the population, were already living in poverty. With the recent developments, some experts believe that this number could increase even further in the coming months.

Additionally, ongoing inflation and food shortages have exacerbated the situation, making it increasingly difficult for many households to afford basic necessities such as food and transportation. The combination of these factors has left many Nigerians feeling trapped in a cycle of economic hardship, with little relief in sight.
