The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged Nigerians to remain patient with President Bola Tinubu’s administration despite the current economic difficulties.
Wike made this statement on Wednesday during a visit to Ibadan, Oyo State, where he led members of the G-5 group and other political allies on a condolence visit to Governor Seyi Makinde. The governor recently lost his elder brother, Sunday Makinde, who passed away on January 24, 2025, at the age of 65.
The delegation included former governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Samuel Ortom (Benue), as well as Senators Sandy Onor, Philip Aduda, Olaka Nwogu, Mao Ohuabunwa, and Chibudom Nwuche.
During the visit, Wike acknowledged the hardships Nigerians are facing but noted that the government’s economic policies would bring positive results over time.
“I have always told people to be patient with this government. This country has faced significant challenges in the past, and it’s essential to recognize the progress we’ve made,” Wike said.
He added that while the policies may have immediate effects, they were necessary steps toward achieving long-term economic stability.
“We have to give it time. It’s not like a miracle. The policies Mr. President is implementing will have some effects, and people will feel them, but in the end, we will achieve what we want to achieve,” he added.
Wike reassured Nigerians that better days were ahead, urging them not to panic despite the temporary difficulties.
“Although we may have to endure some hardships now, we should not panic. Mr. President genuinely cares for our country, and I assure you that better days are ahead,” he said.
While offering condolences to Governor Makinde and his family, Wike stressed the importance of unity in difficult times.
“In this moment of profound loss, we are here to offer our love and solidarity. We stand by our brother, Makinde, in this trying time. Losing a loved one is never easy, and we want to assure him that he is not alone,” he said.
On the same day, another delegation led by a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Bode George, also visited Makinde. George was accompanied by former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and other party leaders to express their condolences.
