Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday. Harry Kane’s composed penalty in the second half proved decisive in a match where clear opportunities were scarce.
The clash came a day after Bayer Leverkusen’s narrow 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund, which briefly brought them within a point of Bayern. Missing key player Jamal Musiala due to illness, Bayern turned to veteran Thomas Müller, who had an early chance but was denied by Gladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas.
Despite dominating possession, Bayern struggled to break through Gladbach’s defense, which remained resolute for much of the game. The breakthrough finally came in the 70th minute when Lukas Ullrich fouled Michael Olise in the penalty box. Kane stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom-right corner, extending his perfect penalty record to 26 consecutive conversions since 2022.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush scored against St. Pauli, sparking speculation of his potential move to Manchester City. Freiburg climbed to sixth with a dramatic 3-2 win over Holstein Kiel, while Heidenheim and Mainz also secured important victories.
