A prominent herdsman leader, Aliu Yunusa, has been brutally murdered by suspected kidnappers in Ondo State. The incident occurred near the Ilu-Abo junction in Akure South Local Government Area as Yunusa was heading to his ranch.
According to reports, the attackers initially abducted Yunusa’s wife. However, Yunusa courageously confronted the kidnappers, managing to secure her release. Unfortunately, his act of bravery drew the ire of the assailants, who later returned to exact vengeance. Yunusa was overpowered and fatally hacked to death during their second attack.
Chief Adetunji Adeleye, Commander of the Amotekun Corps, confirmed the gruesome incident. He revealed that the attackers are suspected to be fellow Fulani herdsmen attempting to steal Yunusa’s cattle.
“They had earlier kidnapped his wife, but he fought them off and retrieved her. Unfortunately, they returned, overpowered him, and killed him while attempting to steal his cows,” Adeleye said.
The attack was reported by other herdsmen who discovered Yunusa’s body. Upon reaching the scene, Amotekun officers found the lifeless body riddled with machete wounds, and Yunusa’s motorcycle had been set on fire by the attackers.
Chief Adeleye assured the public that Amotekun officers are actively searching the forest to apprehend the killers. He expressed confidence in bringing the perpetrators to justice soon.
