The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded strongly to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent claim that some of its members are part of his coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
The APC’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, dismissed the allegations, stating that Atiku has been misled into believing that any APC member would join his coalition.
Atiku made these claims during a meeting in Abuja with a delegation from Kogi East Senatorial Zone, led by former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba.
The former PDP presidential candidate had earlier revealed that he was forming a coalition to unseat President Tinubu in 2027, with notable figures such as ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former presidential running mate Tanko Yunusa, and former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, attending the announcement.
However, Ibrahim made it clear that the APC is not part of any such coalition and will not entertain any involvement in efforts to remove the president. He pointed out that Atiku’s claims are part of a political theater meant to deceive the public. Ibrahim further noted that the APC, as a party, is focused on its own progress and is not distracted by what he called Atiku’s “political theatrics.”
“Atiku is being deceived. The APC is not involved in any such coalition. As a party, we are focused, growing stronger daily, and not bothered by his political theatrics,” Ibrahim remarked. He also expressed skepticism about any APC members engaging with Atiku, suggesting that if any are in talks with him, they are likely misleading him, as has occurred with previous political coalitions.
The APC spokesperson pointed out a pattern in Atiku’s past political maneuvers. According to Ibrahim, every time Atiku has tried to form alliances, he has ultimately failed. “Each time he engages in coalitions, he ends up losing. That’s the pattern,” he added, reiterating the APC’s unwavering commitment to its goals and leadership.
