Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, now 87 years old, has revealed that he maintains his fitness by playing squash three times a week. The revelation came during an interaction captured in a video posted by Noire TV on Friday, August 9, 2024.
In the video, Obasanjo was seen walking briskly down a corridor, his hands clasped behind his back, on his way to an interview room.
A male companion accompanying him expressed amazement at Obasanjo’s energetic demeanor, exclaiming, “Old soldier never dies. Oh my goodness!” To this, Obasanjo responded with a smile, saying, “They only fade away.”
During the same interaction, Obasanjo shared that he still plays squash regularly, stating, “I still play squash three times a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.”
This revelation underscores the former president’s commitment to staying active despite his advanced age.
In another segment of the video, political economist and former presidential candidate Professor Pat Utomi greeted Obasanjo, commenting, “You are looking sporty again.” Utomi’s comment reflected his familiarity with Obasanjo’s consistent fitness routine.
As Obasanjo prepared to leave the venue, a foreign man approached him, requesting a selfie, which Obasanjo obliged. When offered assistance with his brown leather bag, Obasanjo politely declined, insisting on carrying it himself, a gesture that further showcased his independence and vitality.
This is not the first time Obasanjo’s fitness regime has caught public attention. In March 2024, he was seen in a video visiting Abia State Governor Alex Otti, where he briefly used a treadmill, demonstrating his physical agility.
