Chief Olu Falae, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and 1999 presidential candidate, has stated that he won the 1999 presidential election.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show during a special Democracy Day broadcast, Falae insisted he was denied victory through electoral manipulation.
He stated that legal advice from his late lawyer, Chief J.O.K. Ajayi, confirmed he had actually won the 1999 election by more than one million votes.
According to Falae, the figures declared during that election were carefully reviewed, and the outcome showed he had defeated Obasanjo, who ran under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I was told by my lawyer, the late Chief JOK Ajayi, that I won the election by over a million votes after a meticulous assessment of the figures declared.
“But we decided not to go to court. We were more concerned about the country returning to democracy peacefully after years of military rule,” he said.
