“I’d Disown Wabara if He Were My Father, He Doesn’t Deserve To Be a Leader” – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has criticized Adolphus Wabara, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), for his alleged role in the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.

Wike, who spoke during a media briefing in Abuja, expressed dissatisfaction with Wabara’s actions, accusing him of exacerbating tensions between himself and the Rivers State governor, Siminilayi Fubara.

The crisis within the PDP appears to have resisted all attempts at resolution, even with intervention efforts from President Bola Tinubu.

Wike claimed that certain party leaders, including Wabara, are intensifying the discord by pushing for the removal of the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Sam Anyanwu, despite court rulings upholding their positions.

“If Wabara were my father, I would have disowned him. He doesn’t deserve to be a leader,” Wike declared. He further referenced past allegations of corruption against Wabara, noting that even former President Olusegun Obasanjo had publicly criticized him in a presidential broadcast.

Wike maintained that the constitution of the PDP should be upheld, particularly regarding leadership changes. “The matter is in the hands of the courts, and the party constitution is clear. If they resign, they must be replaced through elections. The fact that someone is trying to bypass this process doesn’t surprise me,” he stated.

He also emphasized the importance of respecting the rule of law and focusing on resolving internal disputes ahead of the PDP’s upcoming convention in December.

“Instead of stoking crises, the convention should take place as scheduled, and we should usher in a new executive,” Wike said, expressing hope for a resolution that aligns with the party’s constitutional framework.
