I’m Not Desperate For 2027 Presidential Ticket – Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has stated that he is not seeking a “free ticket” or any special privileges ahead of the 2027 presidential race. Obi made this known through his media aide, Ibrahim Umar, while responding to discussions within the party regarding its plans for the next general election.

The clarification came after the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Obiora Ifoh, denied reports suggesting that the party had already decided to field Obi, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and some 2023 candidates in the 2027 election.

This statement countered an earlier claim by the factional National Publicity Secretary of the party, Abayomi Arabambi, who had said that Obi would be the LP’s candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

When asked whether the Labour Party was considering Obi for 2027, Ifoh dismissed the claims, insisting that the report did not originate from the faction led by LP National Chairman, Julius Abure. He described the speculation as misleading.

On the issue of whether Obi was troubled by the idea that he might not receive an automatic ticket, his media aide, Umar, said that the former Anambra State governor was not concerned about such matters. He noted that Obi remains focused on his principles and the progress of the country.

“Our principal, Peter Obi, remains steadfast in his commitment to democracy and the well-being of all Nigerians. He has consistently championed the importance of good democracy and healthy competition, recognizing that these elements are essential for a thriving democratic setting,” Umar said.

He further noted that Obi has never requested special treatment and has always supported a system where all candidates can compete fairly. He urged supporters and the public to focus on critical national issues instead of being influenced by misleading reports.

“Peter Obi’s dedication to promoting good governance, economic growth, and social justice remains unwavering. Let’s work together to build a brighter future for Nigeria, one that is guided by the principles of democracy, fairness, and equality. Our principal’s actions and decisions will continue to be driven by these values, ensuring that Nigeria remains on a path towards prosperity and greatness,” Umar added.
