Nigerian media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has revealed that she is open to polygamous marriage, stirring fresh discussions online about changing perspectives on love and partnerships.
In the latest episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, the 40-year-old said she no longer views marriage through a traditional lens and would now consider being in a relationship as a second, third, fourth, or even fifth wife.
“In all honesty, at this point in my life, if I have the opportunity to be the second, third, fourth, or fifth wife, I will take it,” she stated during the podcast.
Makinwa, known for her candid approach to personal topics, noted that while she enjoys being an independent woman with a successful career, the constant need to be in control of everything around her has become exhausting.
“I am the boss everywhere and that could be tiring,” she said.
She also spoke about wanting to share responsibilities in her personal life, especially when it comes to everyday decisions that many might consider simple, like what to eat for dinner.
“You feel like you need someone to lean on. Someone that could decide what is for dinner. Must it be me?” she added.
Her comments come as more public figures are openly discussing alternative forms of relationships, including polygamy, polyamory, and open partnerships. Toke’s take has drawn mixed reactions from fans and followers, with some supporting her honesty and others expressing surprise at her shift in perspective.
Toke Makinwa was once married to fitness coach Maje Ayida. Their marriage, which began in 2014, ended in 2017 amid controversy over alleged infidelity. Since then, Makinwa has spoken freely about her journey through heartbreak, healing, and self-growth.
