The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has taken swift action following the circulation of a viral video showing police officers extorting money from commercial bus drivers. The Commissioner ordered the immediate arrest of the officer involved and his entire team.
This development was made public by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, in a statement released on X.com (formerly Twitter) on Sunday. According to Okoye, the Imo State Police Command has a strict policy against corruption and will not tolerate such behavior from its officers.
The video in question, which lasts only 15 seconds, shows a policeman visibly collecting money from commercial bus drivers along a busy road. The video has sparked outrage on social media, with many people condemning the officers’ actions and calling for justice. The video has since been widely shared, attracting comments from the public and drawing attention to the issue of police misconduct.
In his statement, ASP Henry Okoye reassured the public that the officers involved in the act would be held accountable for their actions.
He promised that the command would “personally identify these officers and share their details here to show that the command has zero tolerance for extortion.”
