Imo Govt Denies Uzodinma’s Alleged 2027 Vice Presidential Ambition

The Imo State Government has firmly rejected claims circulating on social media that the state’s governor, Hope Uzodinma, is vying for the vice presidency in 2027 alongside the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. The government labeled the rumors as baseless, deceptive, and fabricated by mischief-makers intent on stirring political tension.

In a statement released by the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, it was made clear that these posters, widely shared online, are the work of individuals aiming to create divisions between Governor Uzodinma and President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

Emelumba emphasized that the governor has never considered running for the office of Vice President.

“Everyone in Nigeria is quite aware that Uzodimma is one of the fiercest supporters of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and has canvassed national support for him to succeed in his assignment,” the statement read.

Emelumba further dismissed the rumors as “laughable and preposterous,” stressing that Governor Uzodinma is fully focused on fulfilling his duties during his second term in office. He added that Uzodinma has been actively backing President Tinubu’s administration, leaving no room for such political distractions.

The commissioner also blamed opposition groups for spreading false information to drive a wedge between the president and his loyal supporters. He suggested that this fake news is a follow-up to recent failed protests aimed at destabilizing the government. Having seen their plans falter, the opposition, according to Emelumba, is now resorting to misinformation to undermine the ruling party’s unity.

“For the avoidance of doubt, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma has no Vice presidential ambition, either now or in 2027. Any information to the contrary is fake, malicious and spurious and should therefore be ignored,” Emelumba clarified.

He urged those behind these rumors to stop engaging in activities that could disrupt the peaceful relations between the federal and state governments.
