INEC Publishes Personal Records of Anambra 2025 Governorship Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made public the personal records of all candidates contesting in the upcoming 2025 Anambra State governorship election. The details, including academic qualifications and other required documents, have been displayed for public inspection at INEC’s state headquarters and its 21 local government offices across Anambra.

This announcement came after the completion of party primaries by 16 political parties. These parties were able to upload their selected candidates’ nomination forms to the INEC portal before the cut-off time of 6:00 pm on May 12, 2025. The portal automatically closed after the deadline.

Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, made this known in a statement issued on Saturday, May 17. The statement, titled “Publication of Personal Particulars of Candidates for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election,” confirmed that all candidate records are now publicly available as part of the election’s transparency process.

Olumekun noted that, “Following the conclusion of party primaries, 16 political parties have uploaded their candidates’ nomination forms for the Anambra State Governorship Election by the deadline of 6 pm on Monday, May 12, 2025, when the dedicated portal automatically shuts down.”

The election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025. According to the Electoral Act 2022, Section 29(3), the publishing of these documents is a requirement and an essential part of the official election timeline.

INEC is urging citizens, especially party members and aspirants, to carefully review the displayed documents. Individuals who participated in the primaries and suspect that any of the listed candidates submitted false details have the legal right to challenge such nominations in court.

“If any aspirant… with reasonable grounds to believe that the information provided by a candidate is false… can challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court,” the commission noted.

In addition, INEC stated that the final list of eligible candidates would be released on June 9, 2025. This is in line with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates that the final list must be made public at least 150 days before the election.
