Davide Frattesi fired Inter Milan into the Champions League final on Tuesday night in what many fans and pundits are already calling one of the most dramatic semi-finals in recent memory.
The Italian midfielder’s 99th-minute strike sealed a thrilling 4-3 win for Inter Milan over FC Barcelona at the San Siro, sending them to the final in Munich with a 7-6 aggregate score. The rain-soaked crowd erupted as Frattesi smashed in the winner, completing a chaotic night full of twists and stunning moments.
The match looked out of reach for the Italian side late in normal time. Barcelona, trailing 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu, turned the tie around with a strong second-half push.
Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo brought them level, both finishing from smart Gerard Martin crosses. Then, with just two minutes left in regulation, Raphinha added a third, putting the Spanish side ahead on the night and seemingly through to the final.
But Inter refused to quit. In the second minute of added time, Francesco Acerbi found the net from a Denzel Dumfries cross, shocking both Barcelona and their fans. The equalizer sent the match into extra time, where Inter found new life.
Barcelona nearly stole it again in the final stages. Lamine Yamal hit the post, and Inter keeper Yann Sommer made two critical saves—one from Garcia earlier and another from Yamal in the 113th minute—that kept his team alive.
Simone Inzaghi’s team now prepares for a showdown in Munich later this month, where they will meet either Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain.
The win provides a huge lift for Inter, whose domestic season has seen them fall behind Napoli in Serie A and exit the Italian Cup to AC Milan. Now, they have a shot at European glory for the fourth time in the club’s history.
