The spokesman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ladipo Johnson, has said that it would not be wrong or insulting if the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu decide to offer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso the position of vice president in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Johnson noted that some members of the ruling APC have approached him about a possible political alliance that would see Tinubu work alongside Kwankwaso in the next election.
“It’s not insulting to offer him the vice president slot; whether he accepts or not is a different matter,” Johnson stated.
He further noted that since the 2023 general elections, the NNPP has stayed open to discussions with other political parties. According to him, they are ready to speak with any party that wants to work for the progress and good of the country.
Johnson also explained that he has been part of Kwankwaso’s political journey since 2013, and decisions concerning alliances or political moves would always be made by the party leadership as a group.
“People from the APC have called me to say: ‘If he is offered, please encourage him to accept,’ but it is a team game,” he added.
Rabiu Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP’s flagbearer during the 2023 presidential race, remains a strong political force in Kano State and across northern Nigeria. His influence and popularity in the region still attract attention from major political parties who may be considering possible coalitions ahead of 2027.
