Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives and son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has spoken out regarding the ongoing political tension between his father and the current governor, Uba Sani.
The lawmaker, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency, shared his thoughts during an interview with BBC Hausa’s Mahangar Zamani.
Bello described the rift between the two politicians as “unsettling,” stating that he finds it difficult to watch them at odds. He compared the situation to relationships that sometimes break apart, emphasizing the importance of maintaining bonds despite differences.
He said, “It is unsettling. I wouldn’t love to see my enemies picking a fight with each other. I love peace.”
Bello also mentioned that neither his father nor Governor Sani had directly spoken to him about their disagreements. He noted that he only realized their relationship was no longer the same based on public developments and discussions.
“None of them told me anything about the rift. I only got to understand that things are no longer as before,” he added.
He further mentioned that people have been speculating about the conflict and even reaching out to him for information.
“People want the issue to look like that of Dramendra and Amitabh Bachchan (in one Indian movie). Some are even calling me to coax out information on what is happening,” he said.
Addressing the ongoing investigations into his father’s administration, Bello stated that he has no objections to government probes. However, he stressed that such inquiries should be conducted with fairness and integrity rather than as a tool for political vendettas.
Bello said, “It is not a bad thing to investigate. But it should be done with clear intention and not to humiliate anyone or because someone has offended you. But if you are doing it for selfish reasons, Allah will judge. Allah will forgive your frailties but will not overlook the harm you inflict on someone.”
When asked if he could mediate between the two political figures, Bello dismissed the idea, stating that his primary responsibility is to serve his constituents.
His words, “It is not my job. Mine is to focus on delivering on my mandate to the good people of Kaduna North. I love peace and fidelity. But for me, if I were to join issues with anyone, I’d rather approach it not publicly.”
He also spoke about his father’s political legacy, expressing strong admiration for Nasir El-Rufai.
“For me, politically speaking, Mallam Nasiru has no equal. He is only concentrating on his work. He’s a father. He’s my father. It is still surprising that some people are waiting for me to say something about Governor Uba Sani.”
