Following the jailbreak at the Ilesa medium correction centre in Osun State, security personnel have increased their presence around the facility.
When visiting the Ayeso area, where the correction centre is situated, Vanguard reporters observed a heavy security deployment. Armed soldiers, officers from the Department of State Services (DSS), the police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were all stationed at different points within and around the facility.
Reporters were not allowed entry into the correctional centre, but the presence of armed security forces was clearly visible. The security operatives wore hoods and maintained strict vigilance, signaling the seriousness with which the authorities are responding to the incident.
Joel Oyedokun, the Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Command, confirmed that security had been strengthened at the centre since the jailbreak. He also noted that the State Commandant of the Correction Centre had moved to Ilesa to directly oversee the search for the prisoners who escaped.
“The Army, DSS are working with us to bring back those who escaped from the facility,” Oyedokun said.
Local sources say that the combined efforts of the military, DSS, police, and NSCDC have improved surveillance and tightened control over movements near the facility. The security teams are combing surrounding areas in search of the escapees, aiming to prevent further disturbances in the community.
