The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended admissions into the Law Faculty of Fountain University, Osogbo, for the 2025/26 academic session.
JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, stated in a release on Friday morning that the decision followed an additional submission from the Council of Legal Education (CLE). This move comes just days after a similar suspension affected eight other universities across Nigeria.
With this latest development, Fountain University becomes the ninth institution where JAMB will not conduct admissions for the law programme in the upcoming academic session. The affected universities had their Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programmes suspended by the CLE, prompting JAMB to halt its admission processes for these institutions.
JAMB had previously announced that it would not process admissions into the law faculties of eight universities due to the CLE’s decision to suspend their law programmes. The CLE is responsible for regulating legal education in Nigeria, ensuring that law faculties across the country meet required academic and professional standards.
Regarding the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, JAMB confirmed that the suspension of its law programme will last for two academic sessions.
“It is important to reiterate that the suspension of the law programme at the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, will last for two academic sessions, specifically the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 sessions, based on the decision of the Council of Legal Education (CLE),” the statement noted.
The CLE has not publicly disclosed the specific reasons for the suspensions, but such actions are typically taken when a law faculty fails to meet accreditation standards, lacks necessary facilities, or has issues with staffing and curriculum quality.
