JSS3 Student Allegedly Kills Teacher During Fight Over Seized Cap

A Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) student has reportedly killed his teacher in Oju Local Government Area of Benue State after a fight broke out between them over a cap that was seized in May 2025.

The shocking incident took place on Thursday at the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Secondary School, located in the Oju Centre of the state.

According to reports, the student involved has been identified as 16-year-old Friday Ogamude. He allegedly confronted his teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, who was 35 years old, demanding the return of a school cap that had been taken from him earlier in the term.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said the situation quickly escalated when the student became aggressive. The argument reportedly turned physical, and in the course of the fight, the teacher collapsed on the ground.

The staff and students rushed to help Mr. Oyibe, who was immediately taken to Amara Hospital in Oju. Sadly, a doctor at the hospital confirmed that he was brought in dead.

Following the incident, the body of the late teacher was taken to the mortuary at the General Hospital in Oju, where an autopsy is expected to be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.

Local police officials confirmed the arrest of the student involved in the case. They described the situation as “deeply troubling” and said investigations had already begun.
