JUST IN: 24-hours After Tinubu Departs For France, Shettima Jets Off To Senegal

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja to attend the 65th Independence Anniversary of Senegal in the capital city, Dakar. He will be representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event.

The Independence Day celebrations, which occur annually on April 4, commemorate Senegal’s freedom from French colonial rule in 1960. The day is traditionally observed with national pride, featuring a variety of ceremonies, parades, and cultural exhibitions.

This year, the celebrations will be held at the Place de la Nation in Dakar, with Senegal’s President, Faye Diomaye, welcoming Vice President Shettima as part of the distinguished guests. In addition to Shettima, several other key figures from across Africa and beyond are expected to attend.

The invitation extended to President Tinubu by Senegalese President further demonstrates the close relationship between Nigeria and Senegal. Both nations have long enjoyed cooperative engagements in various sectors, including trade, security, and cultural exchange.

Shettima’s trip to Senegal comes just 24 hours after President Tinubu departed for a two-week working visit to France. Tinubu’s visit to France is expected to focus on strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic relationships with European partners.
