The Anambra State government has taken action against illegal activities linked to fake spiritual practices by sealing a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, located in Ihiala Local Government Area. The shrine, reportedly run by Ekene Igboegbueze, was closed down following multiple complaints from local residents.
Authorities say Igboegbueze, who calls himself a native doctor, allegedly lured people with false promises of sudden wealth. Many in the community had raised concerns about the shrine’s activities, prompting government intervention.
Prince Ken Emeakai, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, noted that the action was in response to reports from the public.
“Igboegbueze’s business is illegal under Anambra State Homeland Security Laws,” Emeakai stated. He further noted that properties linked to the operation have also been sealed.
Government officials have also confirmed that all items found within the shrine will be examined through forensic analysis. The results of these investigations will determine what further steps will be taken.
Meanwhile, Chinenye Ihenko, the Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, warned young people against seeking services from fake native doctors and religious leaders.
“The activities of fake spiritual leaders are fueling a get-rich-quick mentality in the state,” he said.
He further noted that the government is focused on restoring order and ensuring the safety of its people.
“Our mandate is to sanitize Anambra, and we are committed to that. Anything contributing to the desecration of the state or aiding criminal activities will be eradicated. That, we can assure the people.”
Ihenko urged youths to engage in lawful means of livelihood rather than falling into illegal activities that could lead to trouble with the authorities.
