JUST IN: Details of President Tinubu’s Meeting with Google CEO Sundar Pichai Emerge

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with Google CEO Sundar Pichai in Paris on Wednesday to explore ways to advance Nigeria’s role in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation.

The meeting, attended by Nigeria’s Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani, focused on building a strategic partnership that would accelerate the country’s technological progress.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga noted that the discussions aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s digital transformation efforts and aligning with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes economic diversification through technology and industrialization.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation for Google’s interest in Nigeria’s digital development and acknowledged the company’s potential role in helping the country achieve its technology goals. He stated that his administration is committed to creating an environment that attracts major technology investments and fosters innovation.

According to Onanuga, “The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy will provide strategic oversight, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) will coordinate efforts alongside the private sector to ensure widespread and meaningful impact.”

During the meeting, Sundar Pichai reaffirmed Google’s dedication to working with Nigeria to advance AI and digital growth. He stated: “Nigeria has an incredible opportunity to lead in AI and digital innovation in Africa. Google is excited to continue working with the Nigerian government to create an ecosystem that fosters innovation and economic growth.”

Minister Bosun Tijani also shared his thoughts on the partnership, noting that it presents a major opportunity to drive Nigeria’s technological progress. He stressed Nigeria’s focus on ensuring that AI and digital advancements benefit businesses and citizens alike.
