Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has made serious allegations against his successor, Governor Uba Sani, and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu. El-Rufai accused them of actions that allegedly provide financial strength to bandits operating in the state.
The controversy started when an X user, @realYusufTukur, shared a report about a mass kidnapping incident in Kaduna. According to the post, more than 30 people were abducted in an attack by armed criminals. The user expressed frustration that the news was not gaining widespread attention because El-Rufai was no longer in office.
The post read, “This will not trend, since @elrufai, the man they’ve sworn to hate, is not the Governor. Meanwhile, NSA @NuhuRibadu is busy playing politics with security.”
The kidnapping reportedly took place in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Among the victims were Alhaji Atah Adamu Wakili, the Wakilin Fulani of Janjala, a nursing mother, and 37 other residents.
El-Rufai reacted by resharing Yusuf’s post and claiming that the kidnappers would likely be paid to release the victims soon. He alleged that once freed, the NSA would publicly hand over the rescued individuals to the state government in a highly publicized event.
His post read, “The kidnappers will be paid to release them early, and then the NSA will hand the victims over to the state government in a colorful ceremony. Propaganda trumps sensible governance.”
The former governor further noted that such actions only serve to empower the criminals financially, allowing them to acquire more advanced weapons. He warned that this pattern would encourage further kidnappings across Kaduna and other parts of the country.
“The terrorists, thus further financially empowered, will purchase even more sophisticated weapons and abduct even more people in Kaduna and elsewhere, that is the new ‘modus operandi’ of the geniuses in charge of our state these days,” El-Rufai added.
