Just In: Gunmen Kill Taraba Monarch, Son

Gunmen, on Friday, ambushed and killed the Gara of Chanchanji, His Royal Highness Alhaji Tanimu Kunbiya, and his son, Yusuf. The attack occurred along the Takum-Chanchanji road in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The ambush happened while the monarch and his son were returning from a funeral in Takum. The sudden attack has left the community in mourning and raised concerns over security in the region.

Governor Agbu Kefas confirmed the incident and has ordered law enforcement agencies to swiftly bring the attackers to justice. In a press release by his media aide, Emmanuel Bello, the governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Chanchanji community, and all the residents of Takum.

“The death of the Gara of Chanchaji, HRH Alhaji Tanimu Kumbiya, and his son is a tragic loss. The manner in which they were brutally attacked is deeply saddening. I have ordered security agents to immediately investigate the circumstances and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime.”

Governor Kefas also urged the people of Takum to remain calm, assuring them that the state government will do everything possible to bring the criminals to justice.

Chief James Baka, President General of the Tiv Cultural and Social Association in Taraba State, also condemned the killing. In a statement, he called on the government and security agencies to thoroughly investigate the murders and ensure the perpetrators are held accountable.

“As a people, we are deeply saddened and concerned by this event. We urge everyone to remain calm and allow the security agencies to carry out their responsibilities effectively. We unequivocally condemn any act of criminality and will never associate with criminal elements. We appeal to His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, to deploy security forces to calm the rising tensions in the area.”
