JUST IN: I Remain Lagos Assembly Speaker – Meranda Denies Resignation Rumour

Mojisola Meranda, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has denied claims that she resigned from her position. The rumor, which started circulating after an unsigned document surfaced online, has been dismissed by her office as false.

Segun Ajiboye, Meranda’s Chief Press Secretary, addressed the issue on Wednesday, February 19, stating that the information was completely untrue. “It is a lie from the pit of hell. There is no truth in the story. I am doing my work as the CPS, the Speaker is in her office as we speak, and everybody is talking about his or her business. We do not know where the story is coming from. The Speaker has not resigned, and there is no plan for that,” he said.

The document in question, dated February 17, 2025, spread quickly on social media, fueling speculation about Meranda’s resignation. However, no official confirmation was attached to it, leading many to question its authenticity.

Meanwhile, lawmakers at the Lagos State House of Assembly have thrown their support behind Meranda. Thirty-six members out of the 40-seat assembly passed a vote of confidence in her leadership. These lawmakers have rejected any attempt to remove Meranda and insisted that she will remain in office.
