Just In: JAMB Announces Official Cut-Off Marks For 2024

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has announced the official cut-off marks for the 2024 admission cycle into Nigerian tertiary institutions. This decision was made public on Thursday during a policy meeting in Abuja, overseen by the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, and attended by key stakeholders in the education sector.

During the meeting, it was agreed that the minimum score for university admission would be 140, while polytechnics and colleges of education would require a minimum score of 100. However, it was clarified that these scores are merely minimum benchmarks and not definitive cut-off marks.

“JAMB does not set cut-off mark. What we have is a minimum benchmark score that any university cannot go below. Different universities have their benchmark scores,” stated JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

In addition to setting the admission benchmarks, JAMB also highlighted the top scorers in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Three candidates distinguished themselves by achieving the highest score of 367. These top achievers are Olowu Joseph from Ondo State, Alayande David from Oyo State, and Orukpe Joel from Edo State. This feat places them at the pinnacle of this year’s examination performance.

In contrast, last year’s top scorer was Umeh Nkechinyere, who achieved a score of 360. JAMB has decided not to publicly highlight the highest scorer this year to avoid controversies like the “Mmesoma matter” that arose previously. This approach is intended to maintain the examination’s integrity and prevent any misunderstandings.

Despite this, Professor Ishaq Oloyede revealed the list of top-performing candidates, which includes:

  1. Olowu Joseph – 367 (Ondo State)
  2. Alayande David – 367 (Oyo State)
  3. Orukpe Joel – 367 (Edo State)
  4. Emmanuel Jeremiah – 366 (Akwa-Ibom)
  5. Essiet Etini – 365 (Akwa-Ibom)
  6. Ezenwoko Zara – 365 (Abia)
  7. Umoh Joshua – 365 (Akwa-Ibom)
  8. Mamudu Abdulraham – 364 (Edo)
  9. Adeleke Abdulbasit – 363 (Kwara)
  10. Echem Victor – 363 (Rivers)
  11. Etute Emmanuel – 363 (Edo)
