JUST IN: Kano Governor Imposes 24-Hour Curfew Over Violent Protests

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced a 24-hour curfew following violent protests over economic hardship. The announcement came through a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, on Thursday. The curfew decision was made after an emergency meeting of the State Security Council, which was convened to address the rising violence and chaos stemming from civil unrest.

The statement highlighted that the curfew aims to protect lives and prevent further destruction of both public and private property. “The imposition of this curfew is a necessary measure to restore order and ensure the safety of our communities. It is paramount that we protect our citizens from further harm and preserve the sanctity of our state’s institutions and businesses,” Tofa said.

Governor Yusuf urged all residents to remain vigilant and united during these trying times. He emphasized the importance of community solidarity, stating, “Let us not allow the actions of a few selfish individuals to divide us. Together, we can navigate these challenges and fortify our resolve to build a stronger, more resilient Kano State.”

In light of the curfew, all security agencies in Kano have been instructed to enforce full compliance. Citizens are encouraged to adhere to the curfew for their safety and the well-being of the entire community.

This decision comes after incidents of looting and vandalism. Hoodlums reportedly attacked the newly constructed Nigeria Communication Commission Industrial Park in Kano State. Images and videos circulating online show the building set ablaze, with looters making off with computers, furniture, and electronics.
