Pastor Kayode Pitan has officially been named the new head pastor of the City of David Parish, Lagos, under the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). He succeeds Pastor Charles Kpandei, who had been serving as the interim pastor following the suspension of Pastor Idowu Iluyomade.
Pastor Iluyomade’s suspension came after certain allegations were brought against him, leading to his temporary removal from his position. Although there were initial reports suggesting that Pitan had already assumed the role, it was in fact Kpandei who had been leading the parish since June 2024, immediately after Iluyomade’s suspension.
According to Church Times Nigeria, Pitan’s appointment was confirmed during the RCCG’s recently concluded annual convention. A senior official within the church disclosed to Church Times that the RCCG’s governing council had formally approved Pitan’s new role as the pastor of the City of David.
Before stepping into this new position, Pitan was the Pastor in Charge of the Tabernacle of David in Region 51 and also held the position of Regional Pastor.
With his appointment, Pastor Pitan will now oversee the operations of Region 20, with the City of David Parish serving as the regional headquarters. Additionally, Pastor Ben Akabueze has been appointed as the Assistant Pastor in Charge of Region 20, supporting Pitan in his new responsibilities.
Pastor Kpandei, who had temporarily filled in at the City of David Parish, will return to his previous position as Pastor in Charge of Region 11 in Lekki.
Pitan’s appointment also marks the official end of Pastor Iluyomade’s tenure at the City of David Parish. Pitan, who studied in the United States before returning to Nigeria 37 years ago, has had a notable career in banking and finance.
He previously served as the Managing Director and CEO of the Bank of Industry (BoI) from July 2015 until he resigned from the BoI in 2023 following a government reshuffle under President Bola Tinubu.
