JUST IN: Lagos Assembly Deputy Speaker, Chief Whip Resign

The Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Nojeed Fatai, has officially resigned from his position. Alongside him, the Chief Whip of the Assembly, Sanni Okanlawon, has also stepped down.

Their resignations come as lawmakers praise Speaker Mojisola Meranda for adhering to the directives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and being willing to step aside. Meranda is also expected to resign soon, having led the House for 49 days.

During the plenary session, lawmaker Temitope Adewale expressed deep emotions over the changes, saying, “The entire chamber is in tears. You have restored the spirit of friendship, comradeship, and loyalty to this House. We have seen the sense of belonging and sense that party is supreme.”

He urged his colleagues not to lose hope, reminding them that the Assembly remains under the influence of APC leader Bola Tinubu.

“To my dear colleagues, this is not the end, this Asiwaju’s House. Let’s not lose hope, things will change for better,” he added.

“You did very well but as we know, we are politicians and as politicians, our party is supreme. We’re proud party men and our party has spoken. I thank the deputy speaker and everyone that may be affected. We are around to obey the party, we are not ashamed of it. Madam Speaker, I pray for you, God Almighty will be with you.”
